A note from the TFBF founders regarding their efforts with All Hands and Hearts:
“As recently retired longtime business owners, we began to crave the rewards of working hard towards meaningful goals. For over two years we looked for the right opportunity, one that may benefit others. We came across All Hands and Hearts while reviewing highest rated volunteer opportunities on Charity Navigator.
On December 1, 2016 we reported to base, and received a very warm welcome. There was a strong culture and structure among the staff and volunteers. Everyone was very happy to be there. Nightly meetings kept teams informed of progress and plans for the next day. This level of communication motivated us to get back out there the following day. Staffers coordinated jobs brought in by assessment teams; volunteers took turns with cooking and cleaning chores on base. There were storage tents, work vans, ample and well-maintained tools, designated team leaders, and no-nonsense safety protocols.
Homeowners confirmed the success of All Hands and Hearts for us. Many of these folks lost everything they owned. Mindful of their personal effects and desires, we cleared debris from their yards, mucked a nasty sea swept mix from the living spaces, gutted damaged ceilings, walls, insulation, and floors. Finally, another team would show up to perform mold sanitizing and power wash the floors. There was grateful relief on every site, as homes were transformed from disaster to reconstruction sites.
As we had hoped, this organization is the real deal. To think what we saw in the Florida Keys is going on simultaneously in several locations around the world blows our minds. We are all in!”
