Continuing the mission to serve individuals with disabilities on Abaco
Continuing the mission to serve individuals with disabilities on Abaco
Every Child Counts (ECC) has been serving the Marsh Harbour community through full time special education programs since 1999. Its growth and service has blossomed the staff’s impact to consistently serve 100 students on average since 2014, with the vision, “To foster a mentality where people of different abilities are accepted and integrated into their community to the best of their potential.”
The devastating impact on Abaco caused significant destruction to the ECC campus, and resulted in damages to all of the school’s buildings, including the newly completed Transitional Living Facility and complete destruction of The Convent. Beyond the physical damage, the ECC community is mourning teacher Alishia Liolli, whose life was lost during the storm.
The impact to the facility contributes to the displacement of more than 10,000 students across The Bahamas as a product of Hurricane Dorian.
The Every Child Counts team, in partnership with All Hands and Hearts, is fully committed to rebuilding the ECC campus and seeing full capacity restored to serve the Marsh Harbour community. Our plan to rebuild ECC includes comprehensive reconstruction of The Residence, Starfish Enterprises, Seydel Hall, and The Convent.
Through the All Hands and Hearts school rebuild program, we will provide students, teachers, and the communities we serve with safe buildings, resilient to natural disasters. Not only are these schools serving education to students but could be used as immediate evacuation shelters to protect communities in the future.
